Nutrition: FACT or MYTH?
Separating fact from truth with nutrition can be very tricky. You heard this from one person, but you heard the opposite from another. Which one is right? Regardless of your goal, you need to fuel your body with healthy foods.
If you want to burn fat, avoid any food with fat content: MYTH
- Fats are a great energizing fuel. We need fats in our everyday diet to function. We need fats to absorb certain kinds of vitamins and antioxidants. More importantly, fats help with brain and heart function. By no means, am I saying go ahead and eat 5 chocolate bars per day because there is fat in it, but in moderation they should be in your diet to keep your body working properly.
A “detox” will help in weight loss: MYTH
- Let’s define this one. A “detox” is a process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances. Some involve fasting or liquid only diets. This aligns with “consuming less calories will benefit in weight loss.” The majority of people who decide to take on a “detox” diet, usually find themselves hungry or feeling weak. There are many different kinds of detox diets, however: eating healthy foods everyday will be your biggest “detox.”
Consuming less calories will benefit in weight loss: MYTH
- This is one of the biggest mistakes I have seen people make in weight loss. You can assume since you’ll be in taking less calories and burning it off that you will lose weight, sounds good right? As we could wish it would work that way, it is actually damaging your body more than helping. Clients who train with me are very surprised when they are eating 500-600 or more calories than they usually would, and are still losing weight.
