Welcome to Advanced Vein Center
At Advanced Vein Center, we specialize in helping patients with varicose weins, spider veins, sclerotherapy and compression therapy. We are pleased to offer the VNUS Closure® procedure, a state of the art procedure for dealing with vein disease. The closure procedure is a minimally invasive treatment alternative for patients with a condition known as superficialvenous reflux, which often results in varicose veins and other painful symptoms.
Varicose veins are known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance under the skin. They afflict an estimated 10%-20% of the adult population. In the United States, that translates into 20-25 million people, the majority of whom are women. At Advanced Vein Center, we are proud to serve Western Pennsylvania with offices located conveniently in Cranberry, Robinson, Moon, Chippewa, New Castle, Pittsburgh and Hopewell.
Spider veins are tiny red or purple dilated blood vessels that form when veins become enlarged and swollen with stagnant blood. Though smaller than most varicose veins, spider veins are often darker and more noticeable. This is because these veins are located just below the surface of the skin.
More common in women, spider veins may be triggered by pregnancy or hormonal variations and sometimes result in itching, restless leg and minor aches and pains. Non-symptomatic spider veins may be found on the face and chest as well as the legs. Although surface veins are mainly a cosmetic problem, they can also be an indication of more serious vein disease deep below the surface.
In general, veins are responsible for returning blood from the body, including the lower extremities, back to the heart and lungs. When you are standing, walking, or sitting, your veins must work against gravity. To make this possible, veins have a series of one-way valves that direct blood toward the heart and prevent it from flowing in the wrong direction (called “reflux”). When these valves fail, blood pools in the veins, stretching them painfully and causing them to leak blood products into the surrounding tissues. This in turn causes a number of related symptoms, including:
Varicose veins are also dilated vessels, but are usually more uncomfortable and harmful to your health than spider veins. In general, veins are responsible for pushing blood against gravity back to the heart and lungs. But with varicose veins, the blood flow from the legs back to the heart is diminished by 15-20%, making these veins a burden to your circulation.
The actual cause of varicose veins is inefficient, faulty vein valves. These valves don't close properly, allowing blood to leak back with gravity and pool in the vein. This causes the veins to bulge and stretch and result in many unpleasant side effects such as:
Aching, cramping & Throbbing Pain
Aching, cramping & throbbing pain
Swelling, especially of the lower legs and ankles
Restless leg syndrome &night cramps
Inflammation and redness (erythema)
Itching & Burning
Numbness & tingling
Unsightly discoloration
Varicose veins can also be associated with more advanced symptoms with significant health implications, including:
Venous stasis ulcers (development of open sores with delayed healing)
Recurrent bleeding
Severe leg swelling
Superficial thrombophlebitis (thickening, calcification, inflammation and clotting of veins)
Dry, flaky skin
Hair loss
Heredity is a primary factor in a large proportion ofvaricose vein cases. Other contributing factors may include pregnancy, obesity, hormone therapy, prolonged standing or sitting and injury.
Heredity is a primary factor in over 80% of varicose vein cases. Other contributing factors may include pregnancy, obesity, hormone therapy, standing or sitting for long periods of time and injury.
Many people live with visible leg veins, which are uncomfortable to wear shorts, skirts and swimsuits. In the past, this problem could be solved through painful procedures and surgery. We offer a more comfortable and effective treatment with the most up to date technology to ridVaricose and Spider Veins; known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance under the skin.
