What To Look For When Inspecting a Used Car

You should do an inspection of the vehicle before you acutally drive. It is tempting to hop in the vehicle and take it for a spin. A used car's currnet condition and the way it was cared for are at leatst as important as the style, fit, and features when it was new. A flashlight and a flat refrigerator magnet should also be brought along with you. Always evaluate cars in daylight.
Rust
Rust remains one of a vehicle's greteast enemies despite advances in manufacturing. You should be able to detect this on your own. Rust is usually more damaging to a car's appearance and value than to its capablitiy to get you where you need to go. It is very expensive to repair as well as impossible to reverse.
Begin At The Bottom
You can begin by looking at the car's undercarriage. A flashlight should be used to inspect the floor pans and frame rails. You should look for rust. Search for marked differences in the conditions of various sections. There could be a pristine or freshly painted section in a moderate rusty car. This indication that part of the car was repaired. You should also look up into the wheel wells for rust. The things that you should take a look at closely are rust and wear and tear on the muffler and exhausts pipes. You should also check to see if there is anything dripping.
Tires
The tires tell a lot about a vehicle. It tells how the car has been driven and cared for. Here are some signs to look for:
* Overall wear - Check to see if the tires have enough tread on the them to be safe. This will determine if you need to replace them or not. Tread wear indicators become visible when the tread has worn down far enough. The indicators are ridges that run across the surface of the tire. They are perpendicular to the side wall. Each surface has six of these indicators. They are evenly spaced around its circumference. An arrowhead marks the location of each indicator found on the side wall. It is typically at the base of the tread.
* Uneven wear - You should check to see if all the tires have worn evenly from one side wall to the other.
* Not Computing - Sometimes your car may have low milage but have worn out tires. You should try to find out the reason behind what is going on. The owner may have decided to upgrade and replaced all four tires.
