Improving Your Child’s School Performance
As summer winds down and the new school year begins, it’s important to start out right. Your child will feel better and perform to their greatest potential with a better rest.
Here are some tips for helping your children get on track so that they have a great school year:
Stick to a Set Bedtime Routine
Children thrive on order and predictability at bedtime. It’s calming to know what to expect next and routines that become a natural part of their days will make the process easier on all of you.
Even an extra half-hour helps!
We can’t control when our children wake up, so we have to focus on bedtime. By adjusting your child’s bedtime so that you shift it up in small increments, you can get them to an appropriate bedtime. Even an extra thirty minutes of sleep will make a difference.
Limit Screen Time & Snacks
Just like adults, children need a routine that is peaceful and relaxing to help induce sleep. Avoid high activity, sugary snacks, video games, and television a few hours before bed. Instead, a bath or warm shower and soothing music, followed by quiet reading time will help your child settle down and prepare to sleep.
Adequate sleep helps Brain Development and Behavior
Studies show that a correlation exists between sleep habits and a child’s ability to learn and process new information. Sleep not only helps growing bodies to develop, it is essential for the brain to restore, process memories, and reinforce new information.
Not only will a good night’s rest help your child learn and process new information, it will also eradicate hyper-activity, emotional ups and downs, restlessness, and impulsiveness. Your teacher will thank you!
Teach Healthy Sleep Habits to Last a Lifetime
The challenge of getting your child in pajamas, teeth brushed, and in bed is only half of the battle. The other half is being sure your child is comfortable and asleep for the duration of the night.
If your child is waking through the night and restless, you might want to check their mattress to be sure it’s still providing adequate support. You may have not even realized that the mattress and box spring that were included in your child’s bedroom set were of lesser quality than they could be, or it may have been years since you purchased the set and it’s time to check on wear.
Everyone deserves a good night’s rest and often is starts with the mattress. Pittsburgh area American Buyers Discount Mattresses may be just the solution you need to make sure your children are getting the sleep they need to be successful.
