The Never Ending Task

When to remove trees from your property
Trees add beauty to your property, and are as integral to your landscape as the curve of the land and the outdoor memories you’ve made there. They offer shade in the summer, color in the fall and spring, and those evergreens look lovely with snow-laden branches all winter. This is why we hate to lose any one of them.
But when trees become too old, unhealthy, or so large they would cause injury or damage if they were to fall, it’s time to consider removing them.
Signs to look for when gauging risk
Don’t leave it to Nature
The last thing you want is for a dying branch to fall and cause injury or damage. Or worse, a sudden storm to uproot your entire tree and cause greater injury and damage. Living under an older tree is a risk. Don’t wait until a storm causes your tree to collapse.
Proactive measures are best
In some cases you might be able to diagnose a problem before it leads to removal. Depending on the extent of the problem, perhaps just removing certain branches is all you’ll need to do.
Contact a professional
We recommend you contact a tree services professional immediately if you notice a problem with your tree. Sometimes, for example in the case of a minor visible cavity, the tree will survive and be fine. But a professional will be best able to determine if the cavity is too great for your tree to sustain itself or if your tree has succumbed to insect or fungus-related disease and residual rot.
Additionally, especially with a very large tree, sometimes you won’t be able to spot the problem from where you’re standing on the ground. This is another benefit to enlisting the help of a certified professional. They will be able to inspect dead branches or cracks high up.
