The Causes That Lead to Vein Treatment
Cosmetic Laser Centers of Wichita Falls, Texas is please to offer patients of the Wichita Falls area treatment for varicose veins as well as different forms of cosmetic surgery.
Though most cases of varicose veins aren't dangerous, they are unsightly. Some are large and prominent while others, called spider veins, are small. Spider veins can be found in the legs like other varicose veins or on the face or the nose. Varicose veins happen when the valves that keep the blood from flowing backward through the vein no longer work. The blood then pools, and the vein becomes distended. Varicose veins are common, and it's estimated that about 80 million people have them in the United States. They can be caused by everything from having a job where a person has to stand up for long periods to obesity to pregnancy.
Our dermatologists at Cosmetic Laser Centers offer our patients several types of vein treatment, including cosmetic surgery. One type of vein treatment is sclerotherapy. In this treatment, a chemical is injected into the vein, which destroys it. The destroyed vein is then absorbed by the body, and the blood flow is simply shunted to a healthier vein. Usually, the patient will need to come in for at least two and maybe three half hour treatments. Though the patient can return to his or her daily activities right after the treatment, there might be a bit of soreness or bruising.
Another way to remove varicose veins is by laser. The light from the laser is absorbed by the dilated vein and destroys it. However, there's almost no bruising after laser vein treatment.
Most patients find relief through either sclerotherapy or laser vein treatment. However, a few patients need to be helped through a type of surgery that physically removes the vein. This is called vein stripping and is usually performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon makes a tiny incision, inserts an instrument into the vein and uses it to pull the vein out. This is usually an outpatient procedure, and the patient can go home after a period of rest.
Though vein stripping is usually considered a type of cosmetic surgery, it can also be done to prevent complications of varicose veins like bleeding and ulcers. It's also done if the patient's varicose veins are painful.
With this is mind, patients in the Wichita Falls area shouldn't hesitate to contact Cosmetic Laser Centers if they suffer from varicose veins or seek cosmetic surgery for other reasons. Call today for a consultation.
